4C: Is Your Phone Stalking You? Mass Surveillance and the Civil Society Response

Since the Snowden revelations, it has become clear that most domestic legislation provides ineffective protection against mass surveillance for a country’s own citizens, and none at all for those outside its borders.  In this session, participants will grapple with key questions:  What is the biggest threat to civil society in terms of mass surveillance?  How to win the argument against powerful national security doctrines?  What new legislation should civil society be prepared for?
