After almost 24 years abroad, Cornelius returned to the Netherlands in 2013. Previous positions include Policy Officer at the European Commission (in Brussels) working on Aid Effectiveness of the EU and of Member States and First Secretary to the Royal Netherlands Embassies in Pretoria (South Africa) and Dhaka (Bangladesh) respectively, as sector specialist in education. Before that he worked in a number of countries, including India and Zimbabwe, as a development consultant after having left the academic world where he held positions in development studies at the Universities of Khartoum (Sudan) and Amsterdam (the Netherlands). His first job in the area of development cooperation was with the Dutch Oxfam Novib. Cornelius holds two Master’s degrees: one in French Literature and Linguistics and another in Education. His minor was Social Geography of developing countries.The Netherlands is currently one of the three co-chairs of the Task Team on CSO Development Effectiveness and Enabling Environment, with Cornelius representing the donor country caucus.
