Laura Abrahams Schulz is the Director of Global Engagement at the White House National Security Council. In this capacity, she coordinates global policy on promoting civil society and religious leader engagement. Ms. Schulz is on detail from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Prior to joining USAID, Ms. Schulz managed the Middle East and Africa research section at the Congressional Research Service, a non-partisan organization that provides analysis to the United States Congress. Ms. Schulz worked for nearly five years in the Near Eastern Affairs Bureau at the Department of State, where she was the recipient of a Superior Honor Award in recognition of her support to civil society in the Middle East and North Africa. For five years, Ms. Schulz managed grants programs at the National Endowment for Democracy, and worked in Jerusalem for the National Democratic Institute.
