Mark Sidel is Doyle-Bascom Professor of Law and Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Consultant for Asia at ICNL. He served in program positions at the Ford Foundation in Beijing, Hanoi, New Delhi, and Bangkok, and has consulted for the Ford, Gates, Asia and other foundations; the United Nations Development Programme and other international organizations; the governments of Denmark, Norway, the UK, US, and Vietnam; and a number of other groups. Sidel has served as president of the International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR) and currently serves on the board of directors of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA), and on the U.S. Community Foundations National Standards Board.  He is author or editor of ten books on nonprofit and civil society law in Asia and the United States and related themes, including Global Issues in Nonprofit Law and Policy (forthcoming in 2016), and Regulation of the Voluntary Sector: Freedom and Security in an Age of Uncertainty (Routledge); Central-Local Relations in Asian Constitutional Systems (forthcoming in 2015), and numerous academic articles.
