Zunar

Political cartoonist
Malaysia
Zunar is a Malaysian political cartoonist. Equipped with the slogan "How Can I be Neutral, Even My Pen Has a Stand," he uses his drawing pen as a weapon to fight state corruption and abuse of power. Throughout his career, Zunar has been attacked by the police and the Home Ministry for producing cartoons that were purported to be "detrimental to public order". Five of his cartoon books were banned. His office in Kuala Lumpur has been repeatedly raided. Printers, vendors and bookstores around the country were also raided and warned not to print or carry any of Zunar's books in the future. Zunar was awarded the “Courage in Editorial Cartooning Award” by Cartoonists Rights Network International in 2011.
