Program Director
Poland
Ms. Batko-Tołuć is proud to be one of the developers of a grassroots social movement aiming at transparency of governments and accountability of decision-makers that led to major change in Poland. In her work, she focuses on preparing on-line and off-line tools to get people engaged and to educate themselves on civic oversight and influence on governance. Her organization Citizens Network Watchdog Poland works with more than 300 activists, bloggers, journalists, organizations and groups all over Poland. It also advocates for better legal solutions concerning openness of governance, monitors legislative process, litigates, takes part in the public debate and provides above 1,000 legal consultations annually for those who want to shape Polish democracy. For this vision and bottom-up strategy, she was named a social innovator by the Ashoka – Innovators for the Public and awarded a Knight's Cross of Order of the Rebirth of Poland.
